We were pleased to participate in Patras at the 8th Conference of Mikobiokosmos Society(MBK8), which took place at the Conference Center of the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences, Foundation for Research & Technology–Hellas (FORTH/ICE-HT), April 18-20 2019.
The significant role of microbes on ecosystems functioning and in industrial processes for the production of novel high-value products constitute a major driver of the research and development of the industrial sector in Greece. This need was reflected on the motto of the 8th Conference “Microbial Communities as Growth Engines from Greece”.
The main aim of the Symposium was to provide the framework for the presentation of high-quality research produced by research labs in Greece and Cyprus about microorganisms and their role in Environment, Energy, Agriculture, Food production and Nutrition, the Development of novel Biotechnological Processes and their use as Models for the investigation of new molecular mechanisms.
A special session of the Symposium aimed to reinforce links between academic research and industry while there will presentations on the Research Infrastructures which have started to operate last year and how MIKROBIOKOSMOS and their members could access and be benefited by the new technologies and services offered.
We were happy that the conference included keynote and plenary lectures by several renowned scientists from Greece and abroad, combining multiple perspectives and scientific backgrounds.
Poster and some selected oral presentations from graduate students and post-docs were also contributed to productive discussions.
